I find it pretty ironic that I’ve never had Columbus Day off since graduating NYU in 1990 and joining the “real world,” and now that I’m actually free on Columbus Day (and God knows how many more to follow), I’m not the least bit happy about it.
Why does it bother me? Simple: With fewer companies open for business and fewer people at work, there are fewer job listings, meaning fewer potential opportunities for someone who never understood why a confused Italian sailing for Spain who thought America was India deserved a holiday anyway.
Happy Columbus Day. Bah.
